A private teatime experience with Sophia Yeow of Butterfly Table
Ever wondered why Peranakan food tastes the way it does? Where our favourite ingredients and cooking rituals came from? Or why the recipes passed down at home are often the ones we remember most?
Pull up a chair at the tok panjang with *Sophia Yeow, founder of Butterfly Table*, her private Peranakan dining experience, and Tiap Tiap, her newly opened Peranakan sweets shop.
Think fireside chat meets private dining! Sophia will take you through stories of Peranakan food, family recipes, forgotten ingredients, wet market rituals and the traditions behind the dishes we eat today. Along the way, you'll taste, make and experience the food she's talking about.
What's on the table?
- Rojak — an interactive experience where you'll get involved in putting together the dish and exploring its ingredients.
- Pandan Chiffon with Gula Melaka — taste a classic while hearing about the ingredients, techniques and little details that make it special.
- DIY Muah Chee — make your own and discover the stories behind this familiar childhood favourite.
- Nasi Ulam — a final taste of the herbs, textures and flavours that bring Singapore's food traditions together.
The menu may evolve as Sophia curates the experience.
This isn't a cooking class or a formal panel. It's a small, hosted table of food, stories and conversation, where you can simply sit back and listen, or jump in with your own memories and questions.
Come hungry, curious and ready to spend an afternoon around the table.
